Roofs are subject to a variety of factors which influence them. Heat, UV radiation, rainfall, snow and frost affect the
roof just as industrial exhaust gases and deposits of dirt do. Once the surface of the roofing has been degraded by the
effects of the environment and the weather it will become porous; the roof will not longer be able to offer the protection
it was designed to provide and will be open to attack in innumerable ways by dirt and moss. These attacks, together with the
other effects of weathering gradually turn the roof into an eyesore negatively impacting upon the image of the building as a
whole.
