New tinting system for Bioni paints

The principle distinguishing feature of Bioni paints is their technical superiority. All the same, the desire for innovative solutions ought never to entail sacrificing design opportunities, particularly in the case of the surfaces of buildings. In order to increase the architect’s and developer’s flexibility in developing creative solutions, Bioni has now introduced a new tinting system that includes a range of 1750 different shades. The new system was created by CPS Color, one of the leading suppliers of integrated mixed-system solutions to the paint and lacquer industry.

New Bioni branch in the United Arab Emirates

Ras Al Khaimah (abbreviated to RAK) is one of seven emirates in the desert state of UAE, but considerably less well known than the emirates Dubai and Abu Dhabi, famed for their striking mega construction projects. Current projects in the emirate, that consists of two separate parts, caused Bioni to apply for a commercial licence in RAK. The branch “Bioni CS GmbH FZE” was officially recorded in the emirate’s commercial register on July 13th 2009 marking a further step towards expanding Bioni’s activities in the region.

Bioni supplies the paint for the interior of four hospitals in Moscow

Bioni already received the order from the Moscow city government in 2007. The project was however not carried out until the winter of 2008/2009. The city of Moscow ordered the interior paint Bioni Hygenic especially developed for hygienically sensitive areas to cover internal areas of almost 150,000 square metres. The innovative and germ-resistant coatings were used in four municipal hospitals and clinics in this metropolis with its 10.5 million inhabitants.

ZDF “Abenteuer Wissen” (TV science programme) reports on Bioni’s nano-paint

Nano-paint to counter a build-up of mould and mildew
Nano-technology is not only in use already in medicine. Anyone dealing with this subject will soon discover that the nano-revolution has already started. Chemists, biologists, doctors and IT specialists are all working closely together on the development of new nano-materials. The Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology has already developed a paint with the aid of nano-silver particles that provides long-term protection against mould and mildew. The properties of silver as a disinfectant have been known since the middle ages. The advantage of nano-silver particles lies in the fact that, due to the larger area covered by the nano-particles, less silver is required. The nano-silver particles destroy the protein in the cell wall of the fungus spores and they die off... to the ZDF homepage on the programme “Abenteuer Wissen”

Bioni Nature and Bioni Hygienic are awarded the certificate "Environmentally Medically Recommended

- Once again, Bioni CS GmbH's interior coatings Bioni Nature and Bioni Hygienic have set new standards in the marketplace for paints in hygiene, health and the environment and have been awarded the certificate "Environmentally Medically Recommended" by the German Committee for Environmental Medicine and Building Hygiene of the Society of Hygiene, Environmental and Public Health Sciences (GHU). Since the second quarter of 2002, this certificate has been presented and written about by the Chief Editor of Environmental Medicine Magazine ("Wohnmedizin"). It rates products by considering criteria such as health side effects, low emissions, positive effects on room climate and comfort, improvement in air quality, reduction in level of room noise, beneficial environmental psychological aspects or improvement in environmental satisfaction, comfort and environmental health. The Committee for Environmental Medicine and Building Hygiene was founded in 1995 as a part of the Society of Hygiene, Environmental and Public Health Sciences (GHU). At the same time, the GHU took over Environmental Medicine Magazine ("Wohnmedizin"), a periodical with a long tradition, dealing with environmental medicine and building hygiene. Environmental Medicine Magazine is published in six issues annually and includes overviews of state-of-the-art environmental medicine, up-to-the-minute information on new discoveries and projects in healthy building and the home, as well as analysis of scientific work in this area.

Nanotechnology - Mould / Nanotechnology Conference in Dubai - Bioni launches innovations:

In Dubai, just as elsewhere in the world, contamination of the air in interiors as well as the formation of mould and mildew in buildings is a problem. This rapidly developing metropolitan centre in the Gulf region is constantly in the news; reports in the press and other media focus on the tremendous amount of construction activity taking place there and on the many building projects of truly immense proportions. But even this desert kingdom in the United Arab Emirates has a problem with mould and mildew. Walls and ceilings cooled by air conditioning units combined with high humidity create ideal conditions for the propagation of mould and mildew in hot climates.

In order to give professionals the opportunity to learn more about the formation of mould and mildew in buildings, its causes, the risks associated with it as well as new methods to prevent it, the national building authority of the Emirate of Dubai - the Dubai Municipality - hosted a conference entitled "Nanotechnology - a Key Technology of the 21st Century - a breakthrough in the fight against mould in buildings" on 27th September 2005.

The event, at which Dr. med. habil. Dr. Ing. Wolfgang Bischof (an expert on climatology within buildings at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena Germany), the chemist Mr. Helmut Schmid (Head of the Department for Nanotechnology at the Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology) and the businessman Mr. Sven Knoll (Managing Director of Bioni CS GmbH) were speakers (please see the picture below) was aimed at architects, construction engineers, construction companies, developers, the medical community as well as journalists.

Directly after the seminar, Bioni won an important new customer in Dubai. The contract to provide Bioni Hygienic interior coating to refurbish the Dubai National Blood Bank at the Al Wasl Hospital was awarded to the company by the architects and planners Al Hashemi. Bioni is currently responding to enquiries relating to further projects.

Bioni coatings protect 30,000 m² of facade against attack by algae and moss on buildings owned by the Deutsche Annington Immobilien Group

With the purchase of 153,000 apartments from E.on, the Deutsche Annington Immobilien Group became Europe's largest and most significant housing corporation. Within their portfolio of currently 233,000 apartments, it is likely that at least some of the facades of the buildings will be affected by a phenomenon which has been on the increase in recent years - attack by green algae and moss.

The Deutsche Annington Group is well acquainted with Bioni products and has already benefited from them; the coatings were applied to remedy some of their facades which were seriously affected by green moss and algae. This year the Group made the decision to use Bioni not only to remedy already affected facades; they now also use the products as a preventative measure. A modernisation program implemented in 2005 saw Bioni deliver the top coating for the wall insulating bonded systems which were applied. The total area treated in the course of the project was over 30,000 m².

The German Verband der Wohnungswirtschaft (Housing Industry Association) reported in its in-house magazine on how Bioni coatings are able to prevent algae attacking wall insulating bonded systems

The Rheinland-Westfalia section of the Housing Industry Association (the German abbreviation is VdW) is one of the most important organisations of its kind in Germany. This association represents 474 housing companies providing advice, monitoring and general representation. Together with the VdW Southwest, an independent regional association representing over 200 housing companies with a portfolio of over 400,000 apartments the Rheinland-Westfalia VdW publishes a magazine aimed at the entire membership. In addition to important developments in the housing market the magazine reports on projects of interest undertaken by association members.

In the July/August edition a two page report was published on the problem of algae formation on wall insulating bonded systems installed on the facades of buildings belonging to the Deutsche Annington Immobilien Group. The solution, provided by Bioni's facade coating was described.
